-ensuring any gates leading into the side and rear of your property have a good quality padlock
-ensure the inner edge of your window and door blind slats are facing up and not down or left open when you’re not home. This prevents any opportunist thieves seeing something that might catch their eye or seeing there is no-one home
-don’t leave valuables unattended in your garden
-purchase a good quality padlock for your shed
-keep any communal doors closed if you live in an apartment block
-don’t leave windows open when you’re not at home

If you don’t mind incurring extra expense:

-CCTV cameras
-movement sensitive lights
-a burglar alarm system
-pre-set light timers for when you’re on holiday or out for the evening
