06 Oct National Home Security Month
Modern technology allows everyone to go away more frequently each year due to the ease of access to extensive offers. As can be seen by the expansion and growing popularity of companies such as Air BnB. This is great for all you jet-setters out there! Unfortunately, it’s also an ideal time for burglars to strike. The majority of burglaries occur whilst we are at work or on holiday.
The Office of National Statistics states in the year ending March 2017 there were 411,536 recorded incidents of domestic burglary within the UK.
Burglars are a lot less likely to target a property that looks secure. There are many cost-efficient precautions which can be taken to help protect against thieves:
-ensuring any gates leading into the side and rear of your property have a good quality padlock
-ensure the inner edge of your window and door blind slats are facing up and not down or left open when you’re not home. This prevents any opportunist thieves seeing something that might catch their eye or seeing there is no-one home
-don’t leave valuables unattended in your garden
-purchase a good quality padlock for your shed
-keep any communal doors closed if you live in an apartment block
-don’t leave windows open when you’re not at home
If you don’t mind incurring extra expense:
-movement sensitive lights
-a burglar alarm system
-pre-set light timers for when you’re on holiday or out for the evening

Upgrading your doors is a stylish way to improve security. As winter is fast approaching the door you choose also helps keep out that other unwanted guest – cold drafts!
This interesting video below shows how these pretend intruders fared against breaking through different doors:
For those who are more security conscious we offer the Palladio door. However, all our doors are secure and will help deter burglars.
Composite doors and solid wood doors are also durable options, although composite doors have the advantage of being low maintenance in comparison to wood. For those on a budget uPVC doors also provide a viable security option. All of our doors have police approved Yale locking systems for ultimate security.
All our units come with an insurance backed 10-year guarantee, something on which we pride ourselves as most companies only offer a 5-year guarantee.
One of the great advantages of upgrading to double glazing, or even triple glazing, is the extra security that comes with it. All of our windows are made to measure. They will fit perfectly for both the aesthetic purpose and strength of the improvement. You can see some of our windows in our gallery.
